Based in the commune of Saugues, in Haute-Loire, Hugo Bernard took over a farm initially oriented toward a herd of Limousin breed cows. When setting up, he chose to shift the operation toward dairy production and to design a functional building suited to working independently.
The objective is clear: to be able to manage the farm alone while remaining efficient in daily tasks. To achieve this, he relies in particular on automating certain key operations, such as cleaning the building’s alleys.
On the farm, the choice fell on a BVS vacuum robot capable of cleaning the alleys autonomously. With a large working width, it can efficiently cover the building’s aisles in a single pass.
The BVS operates using a navigation system with lidars, allowing it to navigate the building environment and automatically return to its charging base.
Every morning, the farmer simply checks that everything is working correctly before starting his day.
The start-up went smoothly without any particular difficulties. The cows quickly got used to the presence of the robot, and using the equipment proved intuitive thanks to an easy-to-use control application.
Today, daily maintenance remains minimal: a quick check and cleaning are enough to ensure proper operation.
After several months of use, Hugo Bernard believes that this type of equipment provides real working comfort. Automation helps reduce repetitive tasks and allows more time to be devoted to other farm activities.
In a context where labor is becoming harder to find, these technologies could play an increasingly important role in the organization of dairy farms.
