Located in Bussac Haut, in the municipality of Siaugues-Sainte-Marie (Haute-Loire, France), GAEC de Roche Vive is a family-run farm managed by two brothers. Their operation combines dairy production, arable farming, on-farm processing, and direct sales. To support the development of their business, the farmers chose the BouMatic Gemini UP double box milking robot, a solution aligned with their goal of gradually increasing the herd size to 70–75 cows.

A Technical Choice Proven in Practice, Improving Performance

Before automation, the farm produced 500,000 liters of milk annually. Following the installation of the robot, production increased to 800,000 liters. The decision to invest in a single robot, avoiding the cost of a second installation, together with its compact design and rear-service access, were key factors in the selection process.

After one year of operation, the verdict is clear: the system meets expectations. The teat preparation process ensures excellent hygiene and efficient milking, with cows arriving well prepared for each milking session. The results have been impressive, with average production increasing from 24 to 28 kg of milk per cow per day. This improvement is attributed to more consistent milking intervals and enhanced animal comfort.

Technology Supporting Daily Operations, A Tool for Better Work Organization

The farmers particularly appreciate the simplicity of the robot, which integrates smoothly into the day-to-day management of the farm.

By eliminating the need for conventional milking, the system frees up valuable time and makes it possible to increase the herd by 20 to 25 cows without creating a significant additional workload.

Preparing for the Future

At GAEC de Roche Vive, the milking robot has become a genuine development tool, supporting production growth, improving working conditions, and helping secure the long-term future and succession of the farm.

Because beyond productivity gains, this investment helps facilitate the arrival of a new partner in the business and improves the overall attractiveness of the farming profession.
