Job description

This position is distinguished in that it is a key member of BouMatic’s engineering team and reports to the Chief Engineer. In this key position, the successful candidate under the general supervision of the Chief Engineer and Engineering staff, will utilize various tools and equipment to develop engineering prototypes and test fixtures for the dairy products produced by BouMatic. The Engineering Technician will work out of the Madison, WI location.

Key Responsibilities and Accountability

Relationships:

  1. Reports to Chief Engineer.
  2. Works with Engineering and Tech Service staff members.


Responsibilities:

  1. Work with engineering staff to design, build, and test solutions to a variety of technical problems.
  1. Gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources to test new or changing product functionality.
  1. Run tests, diagnostics, and calibrations.
  1. Conduct experiments and investigations under the guidance of engineers.
  1. Ensure technical documentation is accurate to the actual operation of products.
  1. Respond to unplanned breakdowns with a sense of urgency and demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting techniques.
  1. Build new engineering prototypes and test fixtures.
  1. Collect and report test data.
  1. Safely carry out duties in a prototype shop environment.
  1. Must be able to travel to a dairy environment to install prototypes or perform testing.

Technical/Job Skill Qualifications

The candidates must meet the following qualifications, and have demonstrated the following technical or job skills:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  1. Associates degree in engineering technology or similar, desired.
  1. A minimum of 2 years working as an Engineering Technician or in a comparable technical position.
  1. Experienced in mechanical, electrical and software systems, robotics experience a plus.
  1. Demonstrate good verbal, and written communication skills and ability to deal effectively with all levels of the organization.
  1. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required.
  1. Experience with Solidworks or similar 3D modeling software desirable.
  1. Possess a technical aptitude regarding shop tools and equipment.
  1. Strong work ethic and ability to be a self-starter.
  1. Should be able to read an engineering drawing.
  1. Must be able to use a variety of measuring equipment, including: tape measure, caliper, micrometer, scale, flow meter, pressure gauge.
  1. Welding skills required.
  1. Ability to operate or learn quickly how to use lathe, mill, or any other metal fab machines.
  1. Basic knowledge of test equipment, controls experience a plus.
  1. Knowledge of the dairy industry would be beneficial.
